RiverWare—A River and Reservoir Modeling Tool

RiverWare is a general river and reservoir modeling tool for operational scheduling and forecasting, planning, policy evaluation, and other operational analysis and decision processes. RiverWare has the capability to model hydrologic processes of reservoirs, river reaches, diversions, distribution canals, consumptive uses, shallow groundwater interaction, and conjunctive use. The software can also model hydropower production and energy uses; water rights, water ownership, and water accounting transactions; and water quality.

R Statistical Analysis Software

R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. Its integrated suite of software facilities enables data manipulation, calculation, and graphical display. The environment compiles and runs on a wide variety of UNIX platforms, Windows, and MacOS. The S language is often the vehicle of choice for research in statistical methodology, and R provides an open-source route to participation in that activity.

The R environment includes:

Local Climate Analysis Tool (LCAT)

The Local Climate Analysis Tool (LCAT) helps advanced users identify and predict climate-related impacts on water and weather at a local level. Originally developed to support National Weather Service field offices, LCAT offers data-driven answers to climate-related questions. The tool links local weather and water events to signals in the climate system, providing information about how climate variability and change contribute to local climate trends.

NOAA's Weather and Climate Toolkit

NOAA's Weather and Climate Toolkit offers access to traditionally hard-to-use weather data in an accessible, visual format.

Using data to examine extreme weather events such as droughts, floods, and hurricanes can be difficult when they require separate data files for each time slice of the events. These data files can easily number from the hundreds to well over a thousand. The Weather and Climate Toolkit offers a first step to getting that data into a workable format. The toolkit can also help you get data you already have into various formats.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Digital Commons Database

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a technique for assessing the environmental impacts of products from raw materials to disposal after use. The LCA Database, part of the LCA Digital Commons Project at the National Agricultural Library, provides open access Life Cycle Assessment datasets and tools. The goal of the LCA Digital Commons Project is to develop a database and tool set intended to provide data for use in LCAs of food, biofuels, and a variety of other bioproducts.

HURREVAC

HURREVAC (short for Hurricane Evacuation) is a storm tracking and decision support tool of the National Hurricane Program, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the NOAA National Hurricane Center.
