Eastern Region Quarterly Climate Impacts and Outlook

The Quarterly Climate Impacts and Outlook for the Eastern Region—which includes Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia—provides a summary of the region's weather and climate impacts from the previous quarter, and outlooks for conditions during the coming quarter.

Treepedia

This interactive website uses Google Street View data to measure the urban "Green Canopy," or the aboveground portion of trees and vegetation in cities around the world. Treepedia allows city dwellers to view the location and size of trees within their communities, and a future iteration of the website will allow users to submit input to help tag, track, and advocate for more such trees in their cities.

State Climate Summaries

These state summaries were produced to meet a demand for state-level information in the wake of the Third U.S. National Climate Assessment, released in 2014. The summaries cover assessment topics directly related to NOAA’s mission, specifically historical climate variations and trends, future climate model projections of climate conditions during the 21st century, and past and future conditions of sea level and coastal flooding. Click on each state to see key messages, figures, and and a summary of climate impacts in your state.

NEWA—Network for Environment and Weather Applications

This website retrieves data from on-farm, grower-owned weather stations throughout the Northeast and in a number of other locations across the U.S. These data are combined with data from existing observations and forecasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to provide integrated pest management (IPM) and crop production model results and tabulated weather data summaries to growers. Currently, 30 IPM and crop production tools and 13 degree-day tools are freely available from the NEWA website.

Assessing Climate-Sensitive Ecosystems in the Southeastern United States

Climate change impacts ecosystems in many ways, from effects on species to phenology to wildfire dynamics. Assessing the potential vulnerability of ecosystems to future changes in climate is an important first step in prioritizing and planning for conservation. Although assessments of climate change vulnerability commonly are done for species, fewer have been done for ecosystems. To aid regional conservation planning efforts, this report assesses climate change vulnerability for ecosystems in the Southeastern United States and Caribbean.

Landslide Monitoring

Monitoring is essential to predicting the behavior of landslides and forecasting which storms can trigger large numbers of landslides. Scientists in the U.S. Geological Survey's Landslide Hazards Program monitor selected landslides and hillsides in order to learn more about the physical processes that trigger landslides or control their movement. 

Climate Explorer

The Climate Explorer offers graphs, maps, and downloadable data of observed and projected climate variables for every county in the contiguous United States. The tool offers graphs and maps of climate projections for temperature, precipitation, and related climate variables for two possible futures—one in which humans make a significant attempt to reduce global emissions of heat-trapping gases, and one in which the rate of global emissions continues rising through 2100.  

Aquatic Connectivity Assessment and Prioritization Tool

The North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaborative (NAACC) is a network of individuals from universities, conservation organizations, and state and federal natural resource and transportation agencies focused on improving aquatic connectivity across a 13-state region, from Maine to West Virginia. It has developed common protocols and training for assessing road-stream crossings (culverts and bridges) and developed a regional database for storing and displaying the aquatic organism passability score derived from this field data.
